Meetings and Events
Each year, the Society presents a programme of events that includes speakers, presentations and celebrations of important occasions. These take place in our home at KATE, 86 Khandallah Road. Tours and outdoor activities are scheduled from time to time, and shared events by other historical organizations are publicised. There is an annual Christmas party, and our Annual General Meeting mid-year. Members, families and friends and the public are welcome to attend these events.

At our next event Ngā Hau e Whā o Paparārangi Society will talk about the history of their organisation which promotes activities benefiting northern suburbs communities. It works towards a supportive environment and whanaungatanga (kinship) for its members and manuhiri (visitors), within a Māori cultural and spiritual knowledge base, including providing continuing education to people of all ages.

President of the Tawa Historical Society David Parsons will talk about the history of the Johnsonville train line. It’s such a feature of Onslow and its scenic route remains a great way to get around the hills and into town. The more than 140-years-old railway started out in the 1880s as a private company operation going north beyond Johnsonville as far as the Manawatu and it became part of the North Island main trunk line from 1908.
